Calculation Logic

The shared converter runs FFmpeg WebAssembly. Re-encode mode creates H.264 with the ultrafast preset at CRF 23 and AAC at 128 kbps. It does not set an Android-specific H.264 profile, level, frame size, or device preset, and re-encoding is lossy.

Stream copy retains the source codecs and adds no new encoding loss. It is useful only when those streams already work in MP4 and on the target Android device. Both modes use device CPU and RAM.

FAQ

Why do videos sent from my friend's iPhone fail to play on my Android?

Some iPhones record HEVC video in a MOV container, and the receiving Android device may not support that codec or profile. Re-encode mode creates an H.264/AAC MP4 for testing, but device limits still apply.

Does this MP4 work on every Android phone?

No. Android devices differ in supported H.264 profiles, levels, resolutions, frame rates, and OS decoders. Test the output on the actual device.

Does re-encoding reduce quality?

Yes. H.264 at CRF 23 is a lossy encode. The visible difference depends on the source, but the process cannot be described as lossless.

Why can a large video fail?

The browser keeps the input, engine, and output in memory. Long or high-resolution videos can exceed available RAM or take substantial CPU time.

Can stream copy fix missing video or audio?

Not when the device rejects the existing codec. Stream copy retains the codec; use re-encode to create H.264/AAC, then test again.
